The New Birth Community Church was established in August 2003 with approximately 32 members. In April 2004, we purchased the old Clarke Street Mission building, which is also formally known as the "Clothes Closet." When God allowed us to purchase the property, we had already been informed of what kind of area this was. We believed that man's extremity is God's opportunity. What we really mean is that instead of looking at what the area was, we began to dream on what the area could become. So, this not only was our challenge but our opportunity to get involved in real ministry. The history and still somewhat present condition of our community is drugs, broken homes, straying children, mentally poor, physically run down, and spiritually bound. Parish Street, that runs on the east side of our church facility has been nicknamed, "Crack Alley". There is no positive place in the community where the children can go. Some of the children, whose parents are unable to take them to positive places, for whatever reason, intake a lot of negativity. Then in the future they possibly become drug dealers, drug users, thieves, or a danger in some kind of way to our community, city, county and/or country. Many people have given up on this community but God has not. Therefore, we believe that God has called us to make the difference. We know that this will not happen overnight, but we have already started heading in the right direction. Our desire is to impact our community for Christ. The vision is to be a church that can minister to the total man. That means whatever mankind could possibly need in the natural, we want to be able to provide or at least stir them in the right direction. We have already seen families changed, souls saved and some clean up of the area. Some of our future goals are to purchase as much property as we can around us so that we can beautify the land, build a family life center with recreation and education space, tear down some of the old houses and build up low income houses and apartments, start an after school program to enhance the communities youth, to continue to spiritually educate our children, and to have a summer program that will positively activate and cultivate our youth. With all this in mind we ask that you continue to pray for our church, that we will be the church on purpose!
